Rocket Bin

A little rocket lives on your desktop. Drag old files onto it and Rocket Bin moves them to the Trash, turning the cleanup into fuel for an idle journey across the galaxy. Cozy, playful, and completely private.

Coming to the Mac App Store. It is in final testing, and there is no download yet.

  • Trashonly, recoverable, with one-click undo
  • 10interface languages, including right-to-left
  • 13+macOS, a tiny menu-bar companion

A look inside

Cleaning up, made a game.

Rocket Bin lives in the menu bar and on the desktop, with no Dock icon and no big window to manage. Drop clutter on the rocket, watch it fly, and check the map to see how far you have come.

Rocket Bin: dropping a file onto the rocket sends it to the Trash and turns it into fuel.
Rocket Bin's map: cleaning your Mac flies the rocket from Earth to the Moon, Mars, and beyond.
The Rocket Bin hangar: upgrade the ship with engines, fins, hulls, and modules.
Rocket Bin missions and achievements that reward cleaning up and reaching destinations.

How it works

Drag files, make fuel, fly.

Drag files, make fuel

Drop any files or folders onto the little rocket. Rocket Bin turns the cleanup into fuel.

  • Bigger files give more fuel, with a floating +fuel reward each time
  • A fuel gauge is drawn right into the ship, next to your science and next destination
  • Missions and a growing Captain's Log track storage recovered, files cleaned, and expeditions completed
  • Spend science points in the Hangar to upgrade the nose, fins, hull, engine, and module

Fly across the galaxy

Fuel is spent gradually to fly the rocket forward, one destination at a time.

  • Travel from Earth to the Moon, Mars, the outer planets, and out past the solar system
  • A map shows where you have reached, what is next, and the fuel left on the leg
  • Tiered missions and a cute one-a-day bonus keep a low-pressure reason to tidy up
  • Achievements and milestones unlock as your lifetime stats grow

Safe and reversible

Rocket Bin only ever moves files to the macOS Trash, using the official system API. It never deletes anything for good and never uses rm. Every item is safety-checked first, so system files, applications, the Keychain, Mail, Messages, Photos libraries, and iCloud Drive are refused automatically.

You always see the list and confirm before anything moves, and you can untick items you want to keep. One click of Undo puts a cleanup back where it came from. It cleans user files by moving them to the Trash: it is not a system optimiser, a RAM cleaner, or a speed booster.

Private and offline

Rocket Bin runs entirely on the Mac. There is no account, no ads, and no tracking or analytics. It works offline, nothing about your files or usage is uploaded to a server, and the app is sandboxed with its progress saved locally.
